About

Cycling Without Age is a movement started in 2012 by Ole Kassow in Copenhagen, Denmark. Ole wanted to help the elders get back on their bicycles, but he had to find a solution to their limited mobility. His solution was a trishaw on which he started offering free bike rides to local nursing home residents.

Cycling Without Age is now an international program in 30+ countries for mobility-challenged people.

Our Adirondack Coast Chapter

Founded in 2022, Cycling Without Age Adirondack Coast (CWA ADK Coast) is located in New York State along Lake Champlain, the northernmost part of the Adirondacks.

We bridge the gap for those who can no longer cycle on their own, reconnecting them with the outdoors and their community. This is achieved by offering complimentary rides on e-assisted three-wheeled bikes (Trishaws), piloted by dedicated volunteer cyclists.

Our Guiding Principles

Generosity: Cycling Without Age is based on generosity and kindness from our donors and from our volunteers. Anyone can help with the initiative.

Slowness: Slowness allows you to sense the environment, be present in the moment, be curious, meet people along the way and take time to stop and talk.

Storytelling:  Elder adults have so many stories that will be forgotten if we don’t reach out and listen to them. It gives everyone a sense of purpose by sharing.

Relationships: Cycling Without Age is about creating new relationships across generations and any borders within our society. Relationships build trust, happiness and improve quality of life.

Without Age: Life unfolds at all ages, young and old, and can be thrilling, fun, sad, beautiful and meaningful. Cycling Without Age is about letting people age in a positive context – fully aware of the opportunities that lie ahead when interacting in their local community.

and Plans

Thanks to generous donations, CWA ADK Coast was able to order our first bike in November of 2023.

Our goal now is to recruit volunteers and then build a fleet of trishaws to serve as many people as possible.
